Supporting Ukrainians in County Wexford

In the Spring of 2022, we at Rotary Wexford immediately saw a need to assist the unfortunate people of Ukraine who had suddenly had their lives interrupted in the most barbaric way by Russia’s invasion of their country. As we are so close to Rosslare Harbour, we applied for substantial funding from Rotary Foundation to assist the local Support Groups that were set up at Rosslare Harbour, Wexford and Enniscorthy, in whatever way we could.

Initial Assistance

With Funding quickly in place, the Club was able to purchase necessary essentials that were given to the people upon the arrival of each ship at Rosslare Harbour.

As the war against Ukraine is a humanitarian crisis, we at Rotary Club of Wexford were very pleased to have been able to assist in some of the aid necessary and in a fast manner. We also helped a group from Wexford town set up an International Choir which was very beneficial to the Ukrainian Refugees in particular, however, people from all other countries were also welcomed on the Choir. This was a relaxing and fun filled resource on a weekly basis for people in such turmoil, specially through the long Winter months.

Our Club was visited in Spring of 2023, one year on, by members of the Volunteer Support Groups from each town along with some refugees who had embraced life here in Wexford and have started to participate in our Community. Club Members were interested to hear how they were getting on and if there was any further assistance that we could offer the Groups.

Wexford Town Friends of Ukraine Voluntary Group have been very busy during the year helping Ukrainians to learn English. We at Rotary Club of Wexford have offered our time and expertise in the area of CV Preparation and Interview Technique through WTFU to those who may need such tuition.

We were also very kindly afforded substantial funding for transportation of Ukrainians to events and family outings by Stamp Transport and Wexford Bus.
