The fifth and final Just 1 Life event of the 2024/2025 school year took place on Wednesday, April 2 at the National Opera House in Wexford. Rotary Club of Wexford hosts Just 1 Life in partnership with Wexford County Council. This vital project, designed to educate young people about road safety and responsible decision-making, brought together approximately 360 students from Coláiste Abbain, Creagh College, Enniscorthy Vocational College, Meánscoil Gharman, Selskar College and Youth Reach.
As part of the Rotary Wexford Just 1 Life initiative, the day was filled with engaging talks from professionals who see the realities of poor decision making on our roads. Representatives from An Garda Síochána, Mental Health Ireland, the National Ambulance Service, Wexford Fire Service, and Mr. Paul Kelly from Wexford General Hospital shared their experiences, expertise, stories, and advice, delivering powerful messages about making informed and responsible choices.
The programme aligns with the core mission of Rotary Wexford to empower our community, especially young people, with the tools and knowledge to lead safer, healthier lives. Through events like Just 1 Life, we aim to foster awareness and encourage meaningful change in how students approach key issues such as road safety and mental health.
The morning’s presentations struck a chord with students, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. Teachers and organisers were thrilled to see such engagement from the young audience and the seamless collaboration between the various speakers and partners involved.
During the short mid morning break, students were able to meet and talk with members of An Garda Síochána about possible careers in An Garda Síochána. Additionally The Rotary Club of Wexford had a table for the Colour Her Way initiative.
Running an event of this scale is no small task, but thanks to the ongoing partnership with Wexford County Council and to the dedication and teamwork of all involved, the day went off without a hitch. We extend our deepest gratitude to the speakers, volunteers, and schools for their enthusiasm and support in making the programme successful.
In the 2025/2026 school year there will be a further five Just 1 Life events. For more information about the programme, visit our website at Rotary Wexford—Just 1 Life.
Together, we are creating a safer, more informed future for the young people of Wexford.
