The Sassmannshausen Award

The Rotary Club of Wexford Sassmannshausen Award was created in honour of Jurgen Sassmannshausen, one of the founding members of the club. Jurgen helped to establish the Rotary Club of Wexford in 1979.

Through the Sassmannshausen award, the Rotary Club of Wexford recognises people who make a noteworthy contribution to the same principles it follows, in making a difference in their own community, and are using their energy, passion and intelligence to make the world a better place. This award is exclusively only available to non-Rotarians in County Wexford.

Sadly, Jurgen passed away last December 2022, aged 92.

Bernie Mullen from Rosslare Harbour was the first recipient of this award back in July 2022. Mr Sean Kinsella was selected as winner this year by President Mr. David Power.

Sean has made a significant contribution to our community of Wexford over the past 70 years .

Sean embraces the Rotary motto ‘service above self ‘. Sean first got involved as a volunteer with The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Society 70 years ago and was a founder member of Dun Mhuire Parish Hall, for more than 60 years and remained as a member until it closed. From 1974 to 1979 he served on the National Social Services Council and was on deputations to Government Ministers such as the late Brendan Corish and Charles J Hughey, on social welfare matters. For the past 50 years Sean has been the driving force behind St Brigid’s Day Care Centre, from 1966 to present he is a member of the Irish Citizens Parliament, a lobby group for older people and is the Chairman of Wexford Meals on Wheels for the past 35 years. Sean facilities the Rotary Club at Christmas on the distribution of Hampers for those in need.
